The BSA was recognized on the national public relations stage for its 100th Anniversary Celebration efforts around the 2010 National Scout Jamboree.

At the 2011 PRWeek Awards, held March 10 in New York City, the BSA won honorable mention, or runner-up, in the Promotional Event of year category. According to PRWeek, a premier industry trade publication, “A PRWeek Award is not easy to win, nor should it be. It is the highest accolade in the public relations industry, given each year to the best corporate, nonprofit, agency, and education teams, and the work that they produce.”

The BSA, in partnership with Fleishman-Hillard, was recognized for its work surrounding the 2010 National Scout Jamboree, which included:

  • Promotions and media relations around the Grand Centennial Parade in Washington, D.C., leading up to the jamboree.
  • Designing, planning, and implementing ScoutQuest, the interactive scavenger hunt that sent thousands on a high-tech adventure to some of D.C.’s most popular attractions.
  • Planning and executing a ceremony to honor inductees of the Hall of Leadership.
  • Bringing the Adventure Base 100 experiential tour to a prime location on the National Mall.
  • Creating a first day of issue event with USPS for the Scouting stamp at the jamboree.
  • Integrating the products and services of AT&T, a principal centennial sponsor, into the jamboree to enhance the experience.
  • Planning, promoting, and staffing “A Shining Light Across America,” the first simulcast of the jamboree arena show (broadcast and Web) to homes and remote celebrations across the country. Additionally, coordinating event production and media outreach for five local festivities included in the simulcast via satellite.

The BSA was one of five national finalists for the award.
